sightseeing & travel - Italy
Northern Italy is a lovely 2 hour drive from the Pays de Gex. Take the French autoroute (A40) towards Chamoinix, and go through the Tunnel du Mont-Blanc.
There is a toll to go through the tunnel. If you plan to go often, buy a 10 ticket card. When you come out of the tunnel you are in Italy, in the Val d'Aosta. |

For beach vacations, drive to Genoa and head north or south. North the beaches are rocky. Head south along the Amalfi Coast to Portofino, then continue to the Cinque Terre (5 lands, or canyons) and La Spezia. Don't miss the charming little towns in between.
You will pay a small fee to enter some beaches. It is worth it - they provide a chair for each person, a small table, umbrella and have wait service.
Venice are Florence are 8 - 10 hour drives. We recommend taking the overnight train or flying.
- Aosta Valley – As soon as you leave the tunnel Driving from the Pays de Gex takes about 2 hours each way to the town of Aosta, so you can have lunch, shop, have a cappuccino, and be home for dinner.
- Courchevel - is the first city after passing through the Tunnel du Mont-Blanc. It's a little ski village with lovely shops and restaurants, and great to place to stay while skiing.

- Milan – The train to Milan takes 4 hours from Geneva train station. If you leave at 7:00 you can fit in a day of shopping and lunch, and be back around 23:00. Stay for the weekend and you can visit La Scala opera house, visit the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci in the refectory of the Domenican convent adjoining the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
- Torino - is a 5 - 6 hour drive. Art Galleries, architecture, bookshops, museums, restaurants and history abound in this city with a river running through it. A must see is the Castello di Valentino - Valentine's Castle.
